THE AREA
The focal point of this resort is the centuries-old fortress which bears the name of the famous pirate, Bluebeard. This resort not only has an acclaimed restaurant but also has shops and boutiques. The Island is only 33 square miles in size and can be enjoyed by taking a guided tour. The tour will take you up the winding roads into the hills to Drake's Seat where Sir Francis Drake used to sit and count his ships. Just below Drake's Seat is Magens Bay Beach, which is said by the National Geographic Magazine to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Another part of the island looks very much like the countryside of France, with cattle grazing, and west of downtown there is even a place called Frenchtown. If you prefer to do your own thing, you can also rent a car and tour the Island yourself.
